Paper Pumpkin Alternate Project – January 2021

The January 2021 Paper Pumpkin Kit, Sending Hearts, is full of heart-shaped elements and paper pieces in red and pink. It contains everything you need to create eight adorable cards—with coordinating envelopes—for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, and every celebration of love in between! The Coordinating colors for this month’s kit are: Basic Black, gold, Petal Pink, Poppy Parade, Smoky Slate, white.

You can make even more with January’s add-on! The Little Love Boxes add-on includes printed mini boxes and additional die-cut paper pieces you can combine with the Sending Hearts Paper Pumpkin Kit to create tiny treat packaging, gift tags, and even more cards. I tend not to make full sized cards for Valentine’s Day. I think it’s more fun to surprise someone by slipping a little note or a treat into a pocket, bag, or lunch box. My alternate projects this month include a 3×3 mini card and a treat box using elements from the Sending Hearts Paper Pumpkin Kit and the Little Love Boxes add-on kit as well as a couple elements from the current annual and mini catalogs.

My mini card started with a card base from the kit. The card base was folded in half and a 3″ x 3″ piece was cut from the open edges leaving the folded edge in tact. (Cut through the two layers of the folded card.) The hearts were stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with gold embossing powder inside the gold heart from the kit and subsequently fussy cut. The sentiment was stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with white embossing powder on a 1/2″ strip of black card stock; ends cut at a diagonal. A 3″ piece of white ribbon was cut, folded in half and attached to the card with glue dots. The heart piece was attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals to the center of the card. Then I adhered the sentiment and added the white resin hearts embellishments.

The treat box was even easier to put together. I assembled a treat box from the Little Love Boxes add-on. The X’s and O’s were stamped on a 1/2″ x 2 3/4″ strip of black card stock with Versamark and heat embossed with white embossing powder. I utilized remaining patterned cardstock from the mini card to cut a 1 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ strip to use as a belly band to slide around the treat box. Using black ribbon from the kit was tied a bow around the belly band. The snail was attached to the end of the sentiment strip and the whole piece was, then, attached to the belly band using a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals. To finish the belly band, I added white resin hearts. The belly band slides easily off the box. I placed a Ghiradelli chocolate heart inside the box and slid the belly band back on.
