Around the World on Wednesday – May 2021
Welcome to May’s Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop! Our theme this month is “Fancy Folds” with a special challenge to create a project with a favorite fold AND a second project using a fold that is new to us.
I may have cheated a bit on this task; I only have one card. However, my card contains both folds. The fancy fold card that I love and have made before is called an Inside Shadow Box Card. The second fold card, and the one that is new to me, is called an Inside Tunnel Card. The inside tunnel card actually begins the same as an inside shadow box card, but the tunnel is created by adding an extra layer.
I think that it is much easier to understand how this card comes together with a visual. Jennifer McGuire has instructional videos that are filled with great visuals, descriptions, and tips. So, I have provided links to her YouTube video tutorials here:
I featured a new stamp set on my card, the Party Puffins Cling Stamp Set! I think these Puffins made the card super fun and whimsical. I started by stamping, coloring, and fussy cutting my Puffins, cake, and fish. From the Hey Birthday Chick Cling Stamp set I stamped just the balloon image, then colored and fussy cut the balloon out. The final pieces needed were the streamers from the Birthday Chick Dies.
The only color applied directly to the card itself was the cloud design on two inside layers. I created a cloud stencil using the new Basic Border Dies and brushed on color with a blending brush to create the cloudy skies. Circles of two different sizes were cut into the two top layers to create the tunnel with the Layering Circles Dies. The circle piece with the clouds was set aside to use on the front of my card.
Before the card was put together, I stamped my sentiments on the front and the inside. I attached all the stamped, colored, and cut (except one Puffin) to the various inside layers prior to completely putting the card together. The fish is actually hanging from the top of the outermost layer of the tunnel with a piece of clear quilters thread. The Front of the card is simple; I adhered the cloud circle, added self-adhesive sequins, and attached a Puffin with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
