Around the World on Wednesday – August 2020

Welcome to August’s Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop! The theme this month is, Let’s Shake Things Up! The focus was to challenge ourselves by trying something new. There are so many options to choose from such as shaker cards, fun-folds, or some other technique. As always, I think we are going to see some great projects and I can’t wait to see how everyone challenges themselves.

This month’s theme is in line with what I have recently been seeking to do; expand the types of cards that I make. I researched new techniques and found many amazing project ideas. One of my new challenges, my first pop-up card, was featured on my August 2nd blog post. For this month’s AWOW Blog Hop, I experimented with a Peek-a-Boo card.

My card was inspired by a Peek-a-Boo card that Jennifer McGuire demonstrated in a video posted on her You Tube channel. The Nothing’s Better Than stamp set and the Love You More Than dies seemed the perfect fit for this project as the set includes playful images and several cute sentiments. My color palette is Pool Party, Daffodil Delight, and Melon Mambo. I pretty much followed her template, but added a another layer of cardstock to the card front for additional texture and color.

For both cards, the card front was embossed with the Tasteful Textiles 3D Embossing Folder after the window was cut. I added color to the Whisper White card front using a Water Painter and Pool Party ink. I also used the Water Painter for the sentiments in the window.

The sentiments were added three ways. In the window, they were directly stamped onto the card stock. The “coffee” was cut in triplicate and adhered on top of each other for extra dimension. The last sentiment was heat embossed and attached to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Stamped coffee cups, sequins, and Wink of Stella add the final touches.
