Around the World on Wednesday – August 2021

Welcome to August’s Around the World on Wednesday (AWOW) Blog Hop! Our theme this month is “Let’s Shake Things Up!”. The focus is to try something new to us. I’m excited to see the new things our team has tried for this month’s hop.

I love how our monthly themes challenge us to try new things and encourage us to learn and grow. I haven’t done scrapbook pages in years and have certainly never shared them publicly. So my new thing is to challenge myself to begin scrapping again and to create a least one new scrapbook project each month. Today’s scrapbook project also involves a few techniques that I have not tried before.

My inspiration came from a gorgeous page Susan Wong created and shared at The Crafty Carrot Co Hand-Penned Petals August 2021 Event. I used the Hand-Penned Petals Stamp Set, the Penned Flowers Dies, and the Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper on my scrapbook page. The colors I used were Pale Papaya, Crumb Cake, Balmy Blue, Silver, Copper, Early Espresso, and Basic White.

What were the new techniques I tried? The gorgeous lettering was created by heat embossing a strip of copper embossing powder on a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock. I attached this piece to a piece of Multipurpose adhesive sheet, then die cut the letters so that half of each letter is copper and the other half Balmy Blue. I also heat embossed full scrap pieces of Basic White cardstock to create copper paper for the scalloped edge and leaf die cut pieces.

The last new technique was to create my own colored vellum. I started with a piece of vellum and used a blending brush to apply color; Balmy blue. Once dried, I was able to die cut pieces to add subtle pops of Balmy blue on my page.
